Phishing messages claiming to be modero

Modero was recently made aware of a phishing message in which fraudsters were posing as Modero. Upon receiving the report, an internal investigation was immediately launched.

That investigation shows that Modero's systems have not been compromised, and no security incident or data breach has been identified. This is an instance of internet fraud in which our name was used to build trust and solicit payment to a bank account other than our own.

Following these events, Modero has filed a complaint with the relevant authorities.

‍

What can you do if you receive such a message?

We would like to emphasize once again that Modero does not send emails from Gmail addresses or other free email services. Our email addresses always end in @modero.be.

If you receive an email that appears to be from Modero, please be extra vigilant. If you suspect it is a fraudulent email, we recommend that you:

  • Do not reply to the email;
  • Do not click on any links or attachments in the message;
  • Do not make any payments to unknown bank accounts;
  • Delete the message immediately;
  • Mark any suspicious emails as phishing in your email program.

How do you recognize a genuine email from Modero?

A few points to keep in mind:

  • Always check the sender's email address, not just the display name. Modero only sends emails from a @modero.be email address.
  • ‍Check links before you click on it.
  • Be extra vigilant with unexpected attachments, especially when the sender is unknown.

In doubt?

You can verify the authenticity of Modero communications via Kiwi, our app that displays all your files, or by logging in via our website. You can also always contact us via our general phone number or email address.

If in doubt, only contact us via the official phone numbers or email addresses as listed on our website, and not those mentioned in the suspicious letter or email.

‍

We thank everyone who reports suspicious messages. Thanks to such reports, we can intervene quickly and, where possible, warn others about potential fraud.
